Birds of a Feather cont’d….

It’s that time of year when it’s really tough to get in really quality art time but a little here and there and some progress is made.  I was hoping to complete this piece before Christmas but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen so I’ll continue to plug along and shoot for January.  I’ve been working back and forth from one bird to another and one area to another just to break it up.  The technique and colors remain constant throughout each bird applying lighter and darker layers to create all the little shadows under each feather.  Once I feel I’m done I will go back in and sharpen up some of the shadows just to beef up the contrast and make them pop.  The wing of the bright bird is more or less complete while the blue one is still in progress.  The orange chest, still to be completed is difficult to work on for long periods because the colors are so bright and I feel a little “snowblind” after an hour or so, so I move over to the blue for a bit.  When the birds are done, I think I might create a diffused tropical rainforest for the background but I’m going to  play around with some backgrounds on my computer first to see what I like.  I may not get another post in before Christmas so in that event I would like to wish all my followers a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
